How the Market Overview Works
Data Sources
This dashboard tracks 58 benchmarks using liquid, well-known ETFs as proxies for each asset class, sector, country, and factor. Daily adjusted closing prices are sourced from Alpha Vantage and stored in Supabase.
Return Periods
- 1 Day: Prior trading day close vs. the day before
- 1 Week: Current close vs. 5 trading days ago
- 1 Month: Current close vs. ~21 trading days ago
- 3 Months: Current close vs. ~63 trading days ago
- 1 Year: Current close vs. ~252 trading days ago
Heatmap Colors
Card background colors reflect the magnitude of the return for the selected period. Green = positive, red = negative. Intensity scales with the return size relative to the period (e.g., +2% daily is more intense than +2% annually).
Style Box
The Morningstar-style 3x3 grid shows performance across size (Large/Mid/Small) and style (Value/Blend/Growth) using iShares Russell ETFs. This helps visualize which corners of the market are leading or lagging.
Time Series Chart
Click any benchmark card to open an interactive price chart. Toggle between 1M, 3M, 6M, and 1Y views. The chart shows adjusted closing prices with an area fill indicating trend direction.
Limitations
- Data refreshes daily before US market open (Mon–Sat). Weekend data shows the most recent trading day.
- Returns are based on ETF adjusted closing prices, which include dividends but not transaction costs.
- This is not real-time data, there is a delay of up to one trading day.
- Past performance does not guarantee future results.
