Compare your estimated Social Security benefits at every claiming age from 62 to 70. See break-even ages and cumulative lifetime income.
Your FRA depends on your birth year. For those born 1955–1959, FRA is 66 plus 2 additional months for each year after 1954. For 1960 or later, FRA is 67.
If you claim before FRA, your benefit is permanently reduced: 5/9 of 1% per month for the first 36 months before FRA, and 5/12 of 1% per month for additional months. Claiming at 62 results in the maximum reduction.
If you delay past FRA (up to age 70), your benefit increases by 8% per year (2/3 of 1% per month). No additional credit past age 70.
The age at which total cumulative benefits of a later claiming strategy surpass an earlier one. If you live past the break-even age, delaying produced more total income.
